Google Search Console (GSC) is a free tool that helps you monitor how your website performs on Google Search.
When you’re working with an SEO consultant or agency, they’ll often ask for GSC access to check indexing, fix errors, submit sitemaps, and monitor performance.
Giving access is safe, and you stay the owner but only if you do it the right way.
Step by Step: How to Give Access to Google Search Console?
Make sure you’re signed into the Google account that owns or verified the website.
- Go to https://search.google.com/search-console
- From the dashboard, choose the website property you want to share access to
(You’ll see this in the top-left drop-down if you have multiple sites) - Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top right corner → select “Users and permissions”
- Click the “Add user” button (top right)
- Enter the Google email address of the person you’re inviting
(It must be a Google account, Gmail or Google Workspace) - Choose the role:
- Full: Can view data, submit sitemaps, and take most actions
- Restricted: View only access (not usually useful for SEO work)
- Click “Add” and that’s it!
They’ll now have access and can see your site’s performance and fix issues (without changing your ownership).
Pro Tip
Most SEO agencies and professionals only need Full access.
Do not share ownership unless you know exactly what you’re doing, it involves DNS or HTML verification.
How to Remove access in Google Search Console? or Change Access?
- Go to the “Users and permissions” section
- Find the person’s email
- Click the three dots next to their name → choose Remove access or Change permission
