48:28 – Closing
In this episode of The Marketist Podcast, I sat down with Mohammad Yousuf, a seasoned business coach with over 15 years of experience helping entrepreneurs, freelancers, and agency owners navigate growth, execution, and decision-making.
Instead of talking about tools, hacks, or shortcuts, this conversation focused on something far more important:
Why people fail to execute even when they have a clear plan.
We explored why motivation disappears, why people quit at the wrong stage, and how most business “failures” are actually misunderstood transitions.
About the Guest: Mohammad Yousuf
Mohammad Yousuf is one of the early pioneers of freelancing and online business education in the region. Over the years, he has worked closely with:
- Entrepreneurs
- Freelancers
- Agency owners
- Business leaders at different growth stages
Today, he provides coaching and consulting services focused on clarity, execution, and long-term thinking. He is also the author of a roadmap-based business book that formed the foundation of much of this discussion.
Why Most Roadmaps Look Good but Fail in Execution?
One of the key ideas discussed was that most people don’t lack information they lack enforcement.
Plans fail when:
- Goals have no consequences
- There is no commitment
- Decisions remain optional
According to Yousuf, clarity alone is not enough. Without enforcement mechanisms like financial commitment, deadlines, or accountability, the brain assumes the goal isn’t serious.
Burning Desire Disappears, Unless You Recreate It
In the early stages, people are driven by pain:
- Financial pressure
- Struggle
- Survival
Once that pain reduces, motivation drops.
Yousuf explained that long-term performers learn how to artificially recreate pressure, often through commitments that the mind cannot ignore such as investments or public accountability.
Why People Jump Between Goals
Another major topic was inconsistency.
People jump between ideas not because they lack discipline, but because:
- There’s no enforcement
- No check-and-balance system
- No clear stage awareness
Without structure, every new idea feels equally valid.
Public Goals vs Private Execution
An interesting insight from the conversation was how publicly announcing goals can kill drive for some people.
When validation and appreciation come early, the brain feels rewarded before the work is done.
For many high performers, private execution preserves momentum better than public announcements.
The HBGS Framework: Help, Build, Grow, Scale
Yousuf broke down his HBGS framework, which explains why people get stuck or frustrated.
HELP – Survival Stage
- Income is lower than expenses
- Focus is survival, not vision
- Priority: close the income gap
BUILD – Foundation Stage
- Income is slightly higher than expenses
- Time to build long-term assets
- Focus: skills, brand, systems, audience
GROW – Expansion Stage
- Hiring, tools, delegation
- Profits often drop initially
- Most people quit here
SCALE – Optimization Stage
- Systems mature
- Output stabilizes
- Profits finally increase
Skipping stages or mixing advice across stages is one of the biggest causes of business failure.
Are Businesses Failing Because of Bad Decisions?
Yousuf challenged the idea of “failure” entirely.
In his view:
- Businesses don’t fail
- People misjudge timelines
- Expectations are often unrealistic
What looks like failure is usually experience being accumulated, not wasted.
Mentors vs Coaches: A Critical Difference
The podcast also clarified an important distinction:
- Mentor: Someone who has already reached the level you want. You implement first, question later.
- Coach: Someone who helps you think, structure, and execute through dialogue.
Confusing these roles leads to frustration and paralysis.
Why “Lack of Clarity” Is Often an Excuse
One of the most direct statements in the episode:
“Most people already know what to do. They’re just afraid it won’t work.”
Clarity doesn’t come from thinking more.
It comes from acting and getting feedback from the real market.
Final Takeaway from the Episode
This conversation wasn’t about quick wins or growth hacks.
It was about:
- Understanding your stage
- Making enforced decisions
- Respecting the process
- Learning from setbacks instead of labeling them failures
If you’re feeling stuck, inconsistent, or frustrated this episode will help you reframe where you are and what you should actually be working on.
