Google just did what everyone expected but nobody thought would happen this fast. They’ve started showing Google Ads inside AI Mode results.
Not above the AI answer.
Not below it.
Inside the results.
Might still be a test. Might be rolling out quietly. But let’s be honest this was always the end game.
AI gives the answer.
Google inserts paid solutions directly into that answer.
Here’s the screenshot I captured showing it live 👇

Look closely:
- AI generates the entire response to the query
- Organic results (Reddit, local listings) actually show above ads
- Then Google drops the ads inside the AI flow
- User keeps scrolling within AI instead of going back to the classic SERP
This changes how ads need to work. Completely.
What This Really Means (If You Run Google Ads)
Ads are no longer competing for search attention.
They’re competing for conversation relevance.
If someone searches “emergency plumber” and AI explains what to do, then:
❌ “Best plumber | 50% off | Call now”
✔ “Emergency plumber available within 22 minutes. Certified. Book now.”
One interrupts.
The other continues the AI’s logic.
That’s the new rule of performance messaging.
Same Direction as ChatGPT:
What Google just did matches what ChatGPT Search is preparing [ChatGPT Ads].
AI explains, then strategically inserts commercial call-to-actions based on what the user would logically do next.
Smoother. More subtle. But exact same direction.
We’re moving from keyword-triggered ads to conversation-triggered ads.
If You’re Still Writing for “Search Intent,” You’re Behind
In AI Mode, the intent doesn’t end at the query it evolves based on what AI explains.
So your ad must:
- Match what was explained
- Feel like the next step
- Offer a faster / easier / more reliable solution
Not sell loudly.
Enable smartly.
How I’m Adjusting Google Ads Right Now?
This is what I’m already doing for AI-mode-ready campaigns:
1. Tighter campaign structures
- One core offer or service per ad group.
- Mixed intent = confused AI = generic ad placement.
2. Headlines designed as “next move” after AI explains
Add 1–2 versions per ad group written like you’re responding to the AI:
“Roofing contractor checklist (free PDF) based on what AI just mentioned.”
3. Use Gemini to speed up, not to strategize
- Let Gemini build draft structures, keyword lists, rough ad copy.
- Then refine manually.
- AI is great at filling blanks, horrible at making money decisions.
4. Watch for new query patterns
Expect rise in conversational and multi-step search phrases.
Start tracking those early. You’ll catch competitors sleeping.
What Not to Do?
- “Turn on everything AI recommends” approach
- Write generic high-promo headlines
- Assume Performance Max will auto-adapt
- Wait for an official Google update to take action
AI doesn’t kill PPC managers.
It exposes who was never really doing the strategy work.
FAQs:
Is there an AI Mode campaign type?
No. Ads shown in AI Mode come from existing campaigns (Search, PMax, Local).
Should we rebuild ads now or wait?
Now. It’s already showing.
Is AI replacing media buyers?
No. It’s replacing people who only click buttons.
So,
This shift doesn’t ruin ads.
It ruins lazy ads.
If your campaign structure is clean and your message adds value based on what AI just said, you win.
Those who rely on shortcuts will watch CPC go down but CPA go up.
If you want the exact framework I’m using or the Gemini prompt pack for AI-specific ad building — tell me. I’ll drop it.
And yes, I’ll be rolling out niche-based versions (construction, pet services, local lead gen) because AI will treat these differently.
This isn’t the future coming.
It’s already in the results.
